Matilija students and staff had the pleasure to host the well-known and highly respected Chumash Elder, Julie Tumamait-Stenslie to celebrate Native American Heritage Month on November 16.  Elder Julie has traced her family lineage from her father, Vincent Tumamait, to at least 11 known Chumash villages as far back as the mid-18th century. Ms. Tumamait-Stenslie presented on heritage, culture, social system, storytelling, and other Chumash cultural resources. Matilija students immensely enjoyed listening to Ms. Tumamait-Stenslie and learning about the various tribal artifacts. A wonderful cultural and learning experience for all our students!
